Walking For Water 2021

JUNE 19 – 20

VIRTUAL WALK 2021!

This year we go virtual again!

Despite Covid-19 challenges our East & West Coast teens come together to create a unified event again this year. A silver lining in this cloudy time!

Check back here for updates on how to register. Lots of new ways to get involved this year, with another fun Live Stream and new items for the Silent Auction. WFW 2021!!!

VIDEO FROM TWO NEW WELLS

We have video of two of our newer wells that were placed in Southern India for two villages whose community is part of the untouchable caste. These wonderful communities are vital and we trust these new wells will be with them for a long time.

We are deeply grateful for our ongoing partnership with the Phen-Dey Foundation. Our hope is for many more wells in the future.

-Sad fact:

784 MILLION PEOPLE around the world are without access to a basic necessity, clean water. That’s more than twice the population of the United States!

-What can we do to fix this?

We walk. We walk for the less fortunate all over the world with water insecurities. We help raise money to give them access to that basic necessity. We build wells and give them hope for a better, brighter future full of education and prosperity.

In the midst of a pandemic it is important to remember that our planet had experienced plenty before we showed up. Just like the earth, people were experiencing struggle before this pandemic and therefore it is important to understand that most people can’t focus on trying to remain safe because they need to walk for hours for water. Walking for water works hard to spread awareness through our media to educate people about how important water is. Please take time out of your day to visit our website and educate yourself on how you can help thousands of people with a simple click 🙂 ...

As of 2018 about 263 million children and youth are out of school worldwide which means in Sub-Saharan Africa 1 in every 3 children do not receive an education. This needs to change. So far we have supported 4,174 students in Sub-Saharan Africa and we want to keep the number growing. Go to the link in our bio to educate a child for the holidays. In Kenya, tragically many families deny or ignore the existence of the virus. This is because many family’s must work tirelessly every day to provide food and water for their families, and if they are forced into quarantine they will starve to death. This is why must keep fighting for places like Kenya to have what we take for granted. To us it’s an option to them it is a necessity. I am so excited that we will have our Documentary 20 Miles a Glass viewing on our Virtual Walk this Saturday and Sunday between 11 and 1pm Pacific and 2pm-5pm Eastern Time. This was one of the last times Sobonfu Somé was video'd and you won't want to miss it. Colter Johnson created this and it was picked up by PBS. It speaks about her non profit Wisdom Spring and the amazing teens that created and continue to keep her dream alive through our Walking for Water Project to bring Water and Education to those indigenous villages in need. VIRTUAL WALK 2020 REPLAY

THIS YEAR WE VENTURED INTO OUR FIRST VIRTUAL WALK AND HAD A GREAT TIME. WE ARE EXCITED TO EXPLORE WAYS TO EXPAND AND FIND OTHER WAYS TO ENGAGE OUR KIDS AND COMMUNITY. WE ARE LEAVING UP THE RECORDING OF THE EVENT IN CASE YOU MISSED IT.

AS A SIDE NOTE – THE FIRST 15 MINUTES IS JUST A LEAD INTO THE EVENT. BUT WE KEPT IT IN THE REPLAY BECAUSE IN THE BACKGROUND IS A RECORDING WE MADE IN 2006 IN SOBONFU’S VILLAGE IN BURKINA FASO. THIS IS WHAT IT WAS LIKE FOR DAYS – MUSIC AND SINGING AND TALKING. IF YOU LIKE, YOU CAN PRETEND YOU ARE THERE TOO!  A REMINDER OF THE COMMUNITY THAT INSPIRED ALL OF THIS!
